Nettles talks about Sugarland's offbeat 'Glue' video

One of the most infectious pop singles of recent years was "Stuck Like Glue," Sugarland's wildly successful 2010 hit.

When it came time to make a video for the upbeat, catchy ode to new love, the band moved in a surprising direction.

The video interprets the song as a darkly humorous stalking tale. In the clip, lead singer Jennifer Nettles kidnaps the object of her affection (played by actor and Glen Ellyn native Ryan McPartlin), forces him to drink some kind of liquid drug and then feeds him cake inside a warehouse she's turned into an obsessive shrine for him. Kristian Bush, Nettles' partner in Sugarland, assists her throughout.

The video has racked up more than 22 million views on YouTube.

Nettles said the stalking idea came from the video's director, Declan Whitebloom. She said she loved the contrast of the sunny love song and the darker story told in the video.

"But that's me," she said. "I always love some salty with my sweet."
