Buffalo Grove doctor, chiropractor, 4 others charged in health care fraud

A physician and a chiropractor with offices in Buffalo Grove and several others have been indicted on charges they took part in a $2.98 million health care fraud scheme.

The U.S. attorney's office says chiropractor Igor Sher and Dr. Eguert Nagaj controlled three practices in Buffalo Grove. Igor Filatov was the billing manager for the practices.

Prosecutors say the men and one of their employees are accused in connection with a decade-long scheme to obtain health care service payments from private insurers for services that were never provided.

The three were each charged with 16 counts of mail fraud. Sher was also charged with obstruction of justice and Filatov with making false statements.

Also charged were three "purported patients," who were charged with mail fraud and perjury.
