Tobacco checks in Vernon Hills:

A check last week of 14 establishments with tobacco licenses in Vernon Hills showed none sold tobacco to a minor, the eighth consecutive time that has occurred, police said. In each situation, a minor under the supervision of a Vernon Hills police officer attempted to buy tobacco products. This was the second round of underage tobacco checks to determine compliance with Illinois law and local ordinances under a $1,760 grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. The third and final check will be made in spring. Per grant requirements, establishments were contacted in advance of the planned enforcement and given educational/training materials.
