Cheese championship in Wisconsin to have 2,600 entries

MADISON, Wis. - This year's World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison will feature more than 2,600 entries from 22 nations.

The event will be held March 18 and 19. There'll be 2,615 entries in cheese and butter categories, a 5 percent increase from last year.

Fifty experts from around the world will judge the entries. Working in pairs, they'll sniff, taste and examine every entry. Then they'll enter their feedback on iPads, and the results will be posted online in real time.

Entries are coming in from 31 U.S. states, as well as from countries including Switzerland, Spain and Australia.

The contest is open to the public on both days. A gala will be held March 19 where guests can sample the top 16 gold-medal cheeses in the competition.
