Bartlett man sentenced to 13 years on robbery, sexual assault charges

A 19-year-old Bartlett man was sentenced to 13 years in prison Thursday after he pleaded guilty to the predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and robbery, in two separate cases.

Deishaad Hamlin accepted a prosecutor's deal and pleaded guilty to the July 2012 sexual assault of a 5-year-old and was sentenced to 10 years for that case.

Hamlin then also pleaded guilty to an August 2012 robbery in Hanover Park in which he beat a man with a baseball bat while he and another teen robbed the victim of his cellphone and car keys. Prosecutors agreed to drop charges of aggravated battery and marijuana possession in that case and Hamlin was sentenced to three years on the robbery charge.

Hamlin will serve half of the robbery sentence and 85 percent of the assault sentence, meaning he will actually spend 10 years in custody.

His co-defendant in the robbery case, Leon Gonzalez, 19, also of Bartlett, faced only a robbery charge. He skipped bail by not appearing at his Feb. 11 court hearing and a no-bond warrant was issued for his arrest at that time.

Gonzalez's next court date is 9 a.m. March 25 in courtroom 4004.
