30-foot net won't cut it at golf course
As a taxpayer and annual-pass patron of the Mount Prospect Golf Course, I cannot believe that the park district is proceeding with its plan to build a new driving range using only 30-foot netting after its request for a variance to construct a 75-foot net was denied by the village board.
In your articles dated Dec. 6 and Dec. 13, 2013, it was reported that the golf course architect stated that a minimum 75-foot net was required as a safety imperative. And this fact was repeated many times by district representatives in their appearances before the Mount Prospect Zoning Commission and Village Board.
The objections of neighbors to any netting was also well-documented on the basis of aesthetics and impact on property values.
The Daily Herald needs to follow this story to keep residents informed of the potential danger and liability that proceeding with this plan represents. Perhaps more publicity will make the park district aware of the slippery slope upon which it intends to venture.
