Two cited in underage tobacco sales

The Lake County Sheriff's Office has cited two employees of local businesses for selling tobacco products to minors during compliance checks, officials said in a news release. Investigators conducted 76 tobacco compliance checks at retail establishments throughout Beach Park, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, Wadsworth, Volo and unincorporated Lake County between Feb. 3 and 14. The two clerks representing Thorntons Gas Station, 205 S. Route 12 in Volo, and All in One Pantry, 27161 W. Grass Lake Road, Antioch, were issued state citations and released on their own recognizance for selling tobacco products to a minor informant under the age of 18. Each illegal transaction was witnessed by an undercover Lake County Sheriff's Office investigator, the release stated.
