Seniors, firefighters enjoy Valentine's Day dance together

Residents at the Lexington Square senior living residence in Lombard had a ball Friday afternoon at a Valentine's Day dance with members of the village's fire department.

Red balloons formed an arch on the dance floor, where the residents and about 15 firefighters did the Chicken Dance, the Hokey Pokey and the Cupid Shuffle.

While some simply sat and observed the dancing, there were lots of smiles among the residents. Many added to the festive mood by dressing in red.

Residents also enjoyed some wine spritzers and had a chance to vote for a king and queen of the event. Ray Knable and Joanne Campbell were crowned and shared a dance together.

This is the sixth year the fire department has participated.

"We think it's a lovely gesture," resident Lillian Mastro said. "They go through a lot of trouble to make us have a pleasant time and we enjoy it thoroughly."
