Pinewood Derby in Round Lake

A 30-year-old Pinewood Derby track was once again put to the test Saturday afternoon in Round Lake.

Cub Scout Super Pack 199 of Round Lake held their annual races at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center, with Scouts ranging in age from 6 to 10 competing on the 32-foot-long, five-lane track.

Pinewood Derby racing dates back to the early 1950s and was started by Don Murphy of Cub Scout Pack 280C in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Super Pack 199 continues this longtime Scouting traditions among dads, sons and families.
