Fire breaks out in Schaumburg garage

A fire caused about $10,000 in damage to a garage of a home Saturday evening in Schaumburg.

When firefighters arrived about 8 p.m., they found heavy smoke pouring out of the two-car garage of the home on the 1100 block of Manchester Road, Battalion Chief Rick Anderson said.

Although the blaze did not spread to the home, minor smoke damage left the structure uninhabitable Saturday night, Anderson said.

The Schaumburg Fire Department is investigating the cause.

Units from Hoffman Estates and Elk Grove Village also responded.
