Airbus targets one export order for a400m plane by end of year

Airbus Group NV is targeting its second export order for the A400M military cargo plane before the end of this year, said Christian Scherer, head of marketing and sales at the company's defense and space division.

Airbus, known as European Aeronautic, Defence & Space Co. until January, is targeting a jump of more than 40 percent in the sales contribution of exports at the military and space unit where it's cutting 5,800 jobs. Airbus is the chief competitor of Chicago-based Boeing Co.

The company's only export order for the plane currently is from Malaysia, for four planes. Airbus has orders for 180 A400Ms from seven European governments and Turkey and delivered its first plane to France last year.
