Wheaton man sentenced on child porn charges
Ediitors note: This story was updated to correct the charge against John Diebold.
A 61-year-old Wheaton man pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing child pornography.
As part of a plea deal, John Diebold of the 300 block of South Gables Boulevard was immediately sentenced to 180 days in the DuPage County jail, four years of probation, $1,000 in fines and ordered to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors said Diebold was arrested in January 2012 after an online investigation by Wheaton detectives led them to the man's home. At the time of his arrest, prosecutors said Diebold had three computers in the home that were used to download, store and disseminate pornographic videos involving boys and girls younger than 13.
Diebold originally faced three counts of aggravated child pornography and two counts of child pornography, and six to 58 years in prison. Prosecutors, however, dropped all but one child pornography charge in exchange for his guilty plea.
