A non-boiler-plate response from Pihos

I recently received a letter from State Rep. Sandra Pihos regarding an explanation of her recent pension reform vote. In this day of sad, cookie cutter Republican vs. Democratic party line policies, I was shocked and uniquely impressed with her response.

The letter was informed, intelligent and well-reasoned. Ms. Pihos clearly showed independence and insight into her vote, the reason why we elect our "representatives" - to represent us.

In her letter, she not only confirmed that the bill over estimated "savings" but also stated, "I voted against the pension reform proposal because I believe the public and the legislature should have been given adequate time (only two days for public review) to analyze the (325 page) bill."

I only wish U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam would show the same intelligence as he "represents" his constituencies in Washington. We American voters are starving for non-boiler plate, intelligent, respectful deliberation on critical issues as exhibited by Representative Pihos.

Representative Pihos, thank you for reminding us why we elect individuals like you.
