Tollway crash victims identified

A Chicago man was identified Monday as one of the two people killed Sunday morning when their car slammed into a light pole on the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) near Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates.

According to the Cook County medical examiner, David Xiao, 25, died of multiple injuries in the crash, along with Nguyen Knoi Nguyen Pham, also 25. The medical examiner's office has not determined Pham's address, but the Illinois State Police said he was from the Chicago area.

State police continue to investigate the crash, which authorities say occurred about 7:45 a.m. when a westbound Toyota Corolla in which the men were riding veered off the tollway, struck a pole and then came to a rest on the eastbound shoulder. Traffic was delayed for several hours while police investigated.
