Palatine police awarded Golden Spike

The Palatine Police Department was awarded the Golden Spike award by the Union Pacific Railroad because of their initiatives to promote safety at railway crossings.

Adrian Guerrero, the Union Pacific director of public affairs, presented the award during last week's Palatine village council meeting.

Mayor Jim Schwantz, Police Chief John Koziol and police officers Bryce Baker and Mike Myerson were on hand to accept the award. The award comes with a $2,500 grant from Union Pacific.
