Thanks, Gilberts, for saving me $5 million

I would like to thank the residents of Gilberts, at least all who exercised their voting right by overwhelmingly rejecting the referendum to set up $5 million in bonds to provide service and more choices for Internet providers by forming Network Gilberts.

At a time when the rallying cry across the country is for privatization, less government and lower taxes, I find it absurd that the village president would push for such a ludicrous idea. What makes this even more perplexing is that this referendum came at a time when the governor is proposing to cut in half the village's accustomed share of state funds. Does this sound like sound fiscal responsibility?

For the 11 percent of you who voted yes, I wouldn't lose any sleep. Seeing as this was such a lucrative deal for the village, I'm sure there are those out there in the private sector dying to get a piece of the action.

A fiber backed network for the village would be a nice option, but let's bring it in on someone else's dime and not my own.

Once again, thank you voters for saving myself and my children $5 million.
