Vectren customers can still comment on rate hikes

INDIANAPOLIS — Vectren Corp.’s customers have only a few more weeks to tell state utility officials what they think of the company’s request for rate increases to pay for upgrading its gas distribution system.

Vectren is asking for rate increases spaced over seven years to recover the costs of improving its gas transmission, distribution and storage systems, including extending service to areas that currently don’t receive it. The projects total more than $800 million and are scheduled to begin later this year.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor will accept public comments until Feb. 28 and file them with state regulators in March.

Consumers who wish to submit written comments may do so via the counselor’s website at www.in.gov/oucc/2361.htm .

Vectren has nearly 700,000 customers in central and southern Indiana.
