Suspect in teacher’s murder held without bond

A 20-year-old Ohio woman has been ordered held without bond in the stabbing death of a Chicago-area high school teacher.

Alisha Walker of Akron, Ohio, appeared Thursday before a Cook County judge. She was extradited to Illinois after being held in Fort Wayne, Ind., where she was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant for the death of 61-year-old Al Filan of Orland Park.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that prosecutors say Filan was stabbed 13 times, including in his ear and chest. Police found the Brother Rice High School teacher dead on his kitchen floor Jan. 21. Prosecutors say a trail of bloody high-heel footprints led away from his body.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Walker has an attorney. Her family told the newspaper Walker acted in self-defense.
