Be humane to suffering humans, too

It’s my belief that people who are terminally ill should be able to die in peace with the help of drugs provided by a physician. I realize euthanasia is against the law in our state. I consider that a shame when I read articles like the one regarding Princess the New Jersey camel who was put down painlessly due to arthritis. It’s fine and dandy to put zoo animals or sick and old household pets down when they become afflicted, but can’t do the same for suffering human beings.

When I read about Dennis McGuire, the Ohio killer who took 26 minutes to be executed, in the same issue of the Daily Herald, it came across as a process handled by dimwits. If there are drugs available to allow animals’ lives to be terminated in a humane way, why aren’t they also used for people who have received the death penalty?
