2 men convicted in Chicago boy’s death

Two Chicago men have been convicted in the 2011 slaying of a 13-year-old boy who was gunned down while playing basketball in a park on the city’s South Side.

In a news release, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office says 21-year-old Jamal Streeter and 24-year-old Aramis Beachem were convicted of first-degree murder late Monday.

During the trial, prosecutors contended the two men were members of a gang who drove up to the park and opened fire on members of a rival gang faction. Prosecutors say at least nine shots were fired and that one bullet struck Darius Brown of Chicago in the back, killing him.

The two men each face a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison. A third defendant is awaiting trial.
