Lombard firefighter hurt battling Glen Ellyn blaze

A Lombard firefighter was injured Friday battling a blaze that caused more than $100,000 damage to a duplex on the 1100 block of Brighton Place in Glen Ellyn, authorities said.

Firefighters said they responded to a call from plumbers working inside the two-story structure about 11:30 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the duplex. The structure is in Glen Ellyn. but the area is protected by Lombard Fire Department as part of the Glenbard Fire Protection District.

Lombard Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Howell said the fire appears to have started in the area where the plumbers were working, but the cause remains under investigation.

The injured firefighter was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. No other injuries were reported.

Lombard crews were assisted by firefighters from Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Villa Park, Westmont, Wheaton, Wood Dale, Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glenside, Oakbrook Terrace, Lisle-Woodridge, West Chicago and York Center.
