Employee charged in suspected Gurnee car theft

A Wisconsin man is facing car theft charges after authorities said he gave away keys to two vehicles from the Gurnee car dealership where he worked in exchange for $10,000.

One car was taken off the lot, while the other remained, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Travis A. Smith, 19, of the 5100 block of 23rd Avenue in Kenosha, Wis., was arrested after police in Wisconsin stopped the driver of the one car that was stolen Monday.

Smith’s bail amount was set at $50,000. He is slated to appear in court next on Feb. 3.
