Buffalo Grove man charged with soliciting sex from minor

A 31-year-old Buffalo Grove man was arrested this week outside a Berwyn high school where he thought he was meeting a 15-year-old girl to engage in sex acts, prosecutors said Thursday.

Randy Overla was charged with traveling to meet a minor and indecent solicitation of a child, according to a release from the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Authorities said Overla responded to a posting on Craigslist’s “strictly platonic” section of personal ads, believing he was interacting with a 15-year-old girl from Berwyn. He was actually communicating with investigators from the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, authorities said.

“The exchanges included Overla detailing explicit sex acts and indicating that he wanted to engage in those sex acts with the teen,” a news release stated.

On Tuesday, police arrested Overla outside Morton West High School, where, during an initial search, officers found condoms in Overla’s jacket pocket, authorities said.

Bond was set Thursday at $500,000, and he is being held at the Cook County jail.

His next court date is Feb, 14.
