Schaumburg library’s Digital Production Studio open to all

Did you know you have free access to a production studio where you can record music, create videos and transfer VHS tapes to DVDs?

The Digital Production Studio at the Schaumburg Township District Library is completely free and loaded with state-of-the-art equipment available to STDL cardholders in good standing.

Located on the second floor in Teen Place, the studio is available to adults as well as teens. Reservations are required and easy to make, with three options for doing so.

You may send an email to studio@stdl.org, call Digital Media Specialist Jeremy Slayton at (847) 923-3243, or fill out the library’s online form at teen.schaumburglibrary.org/studio. Reservations for the studio should be made at least one week in advance.

How can you use it? Here are just a few examples: Create a video for out-of-town friends or relatives. Whether you are an individual, a family, or a group of friends, your out-of-towners will probably be thrilled to see you on video.

You can talk, sing, do a skit, make a music video — the possibilities are as endless as your imagination.

And though the backgrounds aren’t endless, they are numerous. In our studio greenroom, you can appear in front of oceans, forests, big cities, farms and other worldwide locations. You can even appear on a newsroom set.

On a practical note, how about a videotaped will? Or do a family history interview with gram or gramps in front of a background of their native homeland.

Another great use of the Digital Production Studio is the transfer of your priceless home videos from VHS tapes onto a DVD. These can be easily edited on the library’s iMacs. If you are requesting a VHS tape to DVD transfer, you will need to reserve a small discussion room in addition to the studio.

Reserve a discussion room by calling the Information/Magazine Desk at (847) 923-3347. You can choose to bring in your own blank DVD or purchase one for $1 at the Computer Assistance Desk. Familiarity with Mac computers is preferred, but not required.

Our digital media specialist will be happy to assist with all of these technology projects. He is usually available during the day Mondays and Fridays, or in the afternoon and evening Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please remember the studio is not available on a drop-in basis. Reservations are a must.

Are you ready to experience the Digital Production Studio? Don’t be intimidated by lack of experience. It’s all easier than it sounds, especially with our studio guru, Jeremy, there to walk you through the process.

Start the New Year with a new experience. The greenroom awaits!
