Police: Intruder of historic Lincoln home arrested

A Springfield man is in custody after authorities say he was found in the basement of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that police believe the 23-year-old man was intoxicated early Saturday when he threw a brick through the basement window of the historic site and crawled inside.

Police responding to an alarm at the landmark where Abraham Lincoln lived before becoming president arrested the man.

There’s no immediate word on any charges.

The site’s superintendent, Dale Phillips, says there’s no access from the basement to the historical furnishings and artifacts in the home’s interior.
