Cuba Twp. bubbles over with gratitude

On behalf of Cuba Township, we want to tell our residents how thankful we are for last year’s donations to the Cuba Township Food Pantry and the Cuba Cares Fund as well as the many hours of volunteering. To the awesome families who write the donation checks, we could not do it without you all!

Barrington High School has been outstanding with food drives, volunteering and generous donations. We have continuous support from so many organizations — BACF Youth Advisory Board, Barrington Area Soccer Association, Barrington Breakfast and Noon Rotary Clubs, Barrington Jr. Women’s Club, Barrington Women’s Club, local churches, the post office, groups from Lake Barrington Shores, local Scout troops, District 220 middle and elementary schools, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, local businesses and Realtors, book groups, the park district, 4th of July parade, Newcomers and neighborhood drives.

As well there are individuals who drop off food, pet food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, grocery and gas gift cards.

Our “Cuba Market” has been the recipient of thousands of pounds of gorgeous local produce this year. The nonprofit, volunteer-run Smart Farm grows produce for many pantries including ours. The bottom line is with the combined efforts of our volunteers, Trader Joe’s, Panera and Smart Farm we were able to give away high quality, nutritious produce, bread and meat weekly, to families who could not have afforded it.

Our jobs as Community Liaisons cover a wide stretch of ground. We would not be able to do them without an amazing team of volunteers to back us up.

As we ready ourselves for a fresh new year, we are so proud to live where people give and help from their hearts; it is a gift of true community action.
