Grand Victoria completes facelift

The $4 million renovation of the gambling area of the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin that started in August was recently completed.

The casino's interior got a facelift with updated carpeting, flooring, walls, and light fixtures, which created a brighter gambling space with a more contemporary look, casino marketing manager Marilou Pilman said.

Next comes the renovation of the pavilion area, for which a timeline hasn't been set yet, she said.

Competition from Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, which opened in July 2011, was part of the impetus behind the renovation of the 19-year-old Grand Victoria, casino officials said.
