Discuss ‘Guest of Honor’ at Rolling Meadows book club

Is it possible for a simple family dinner to change history?

That’s exactly what happened in 1901, when President Theodore Roosevelt invited Booker T. Washington to dine with the First Family.

During the winter meeting of the Four Seasons Book Club, the group will be discussing “Guest of Honor: Booker T. Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and the White House Dinner That Shocked a Nation” by Deborah Davis. While the dinner itself was quite unremarkable, the negative press that followed triggered a political firestorm that would impact both men for decades.

New members are welcome to join the group as they discuss this little known event in American history and learn about the fascinating lives of the men involved. To sign up and reserve your copy, please call the Rolling Meadows Library at (847) 259-6050 and ask for the Reference Desk.

The Four Seasons Book Club will meet 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Rolling Meadows Library, 3110 Martin Lane, Rolling Meadows. Coffee, tea, and a sweet treat will be served. This nonfiction book club meets quarterly to discuss a different topic each season.
