Illinois’ Rice questionable for Purdue game

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois coach John Groce says isn’t sure yet whether Rayvonte Rice will be able to play Wednesday against Purdue and if he does play how effective he’ll be.

Groce says Tuesday that Rice suffered a hip injury in Sunday’s loss at Northwestern.

Rice is the Big Ten’s leading scorer. He’s averaging 18.1 points a game for Illinois (13-4, 2-2 Big Ten).

Groce says Rice has been getting medical treatment for the strained abductor muscle and was expected to practice Tuesday.

The coach said he and team medical staff would then decide if Rice can play against the Boilermakers (11-5, 1-2) and if so how much.

Groce said reserve guard Mike LaTulip is also questionable after suffering a concussion.
