Coyote on sidewalk had nowhere to go

Today, like yesterday, just about noon down the snow-covered sidewalk across our street, a scrawny dog scurried. It didn’t look like your ordinary dog that stopped every so often to sniff. This one was on a mission as it hurried along.

Abruptly, I placed my grocery bag next to the car and grabbed my cellphone in an attempt to take a picture. Even after I called out “smile,” the only response was a turn of its head. Upon seeing its face, I realized that my fleeting friend was out of its element, probably chased out by urbanization. Now the lonely, dirty, brown coyote was probably in search for any small dog or cat in its path.
