Peacock dies after cold exposure

A peacock that flew out of its home at a West Dundee zoo Tuesday and spent 90 minutes in subzero temperatures has died. Blue, the peacock, had frozen to a tree branch by the time firefighters rescued him. His death was likely from fluid that built up in his lungs. Full story.

Lake County lawsuit settled

The family of a Lake County jail inmate who was paralyzed during a confrontation with a guard and later died won a $1.95 million settlement yesterday. Eugene Gruber, 51, of Grayslake, died in March 2012. Full story.

Carpentersville endorses settlement with firefighters

Avoiding costly arbitration, Carpentersville officials and the village’s firefighters reached a contract agreement last night. The settlement stipulates that the village use a daily minimum of eight full-time firefighters spread among the three stations, among other things. Full story.

Jury gets Naperville battery case

A DuPage County jury is deliberating the fate of an Oak Park man charged with brutally assaulting a Naperville man following a night of drinking in downtown Naperville. Paul Magee, 27, is charged with aggravated assault following the May 2013 incident. Full story.
