Maine West offers students cardiac screenings

Maine West High School will offer free cardiac screenings to students on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 27-28, as part of the Young Hearts for Life program.

The screenings detect about 60 percent of the abnormalities associated with sudden cardiac death that a stethoscope cannot detect. To date, the program has screened about 90,000 students in the Chicago area, officials said.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital are providing support for the program. Additional donations are being accepted by Maine West.
