Cold keeps several school districts closed for a second day

Several suburban school districts canceled classes for a second day this week because of the extreme cold.

Among the districts to call of classes Tuesday are Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54, Naperville Unit District 203, Indian Prairie Unit District 204, Northwest Suburban High School District 214, Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211, Community Unit District 300, Palatine Township Elementary District 15, Barrington Unit District 220 and Elgin Area District U-46.

Temperatures are expected to remain below zero overnight and into Tuesday, before “warming” up to a high of about 10 degrees by mid-afternoon. Wind chills will remain dangerously cold, approaching minus-35 degrees at times.
