Daily Herald report

Two years after the body of a former Northwest suburban girl was found in a public hunting ground in western Racine County, Wis., police have yet to find her killer.

As Tuesday's second anniversary approached, a makeshift wooden nameplate had been placed over the words "Jane Doe" on the headstone in Racine belonging to 14-year-old Amber Gail Creek, formerly of Palatine and Lake Zurich. Police could not identify Amber until June; she had already been buried for nine months.

An autopsy showed that Amber died of asphyxiation.

Police still are focusing on one suspect they have yet to locate. Authorities have a composite sketch of the man, who was the last person seen with Amber, but they do not know his name.

The two were last seen near the Columbus-Maryville Center in Chicago, where Amber, a chronic runaway, lived before her death.

Anyone with information should call the Amber Creek Hotline at (414) 636-3842 or toll free at 1 (877) 722-4633. A $2,500 reward will be given for tips leading to an arrest and conviction.
