Barrington Relay For Life kickoff party Jan. 16

Relay For Life of Barrington will host a kickoff party for their 2014 campaign at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Francesca’s Famiglia Restaurant, 100 East Station St. in Barrington.

The event, which will feature light food, dessert and a cash bar, will serve to launch this year’s Relay, which is an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The 2014 Relay will take place at 6 p.m. June 6 at Barrington High School.

At the relay events, teams of walkers spend the night taking turns walking around the high school’s track, with at least one team member always in motion while other team members camp out around the track. Money is raised through donations solicited by walkers before the event. Over the years, relays across the nation reportedly have raised over $5 billion for cancer research.
