Part of Thompson Center evacuated

Illinois State Police say nothing was found after part of a state office building was evacuated due to a suspicious package.

The concourse of the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago was evacuated Friday afternoon. Illinois State Police and Chicago Police Department officials say both agencies responded.

Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says there was a report of an unattended suitcase left in the concourse. She says investigators later found nothing and the unattended bag wasn’t threatening.

The state police canine unit responded along with the Chicago Police Department’s bomb and arson squad.

The building houses offices for state agencies, including Gov. Pat Quinn.
