Flags lowered in honor of slain investigator
Flags were lowered to half-staff around Illinois in honor of an off-duty Cook County sheriff’s investigator who was killed while trying to stop an armed robbery outside a family Christmas party in Bellwood.
Gov. Pat Quinn’s office ordered U.S. and state flags to be lowered starting at sunrise Thursday in memory of Cuauhtemoc Estrada.
The 50-year-old was shot in the chest last Friday while trying to stop two people from robbing his daughter and her boyfriend.
The flags will remain lowered until sunset Saturday.
A wake for Estrada is being held Friday in Hillside.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at Holy Name Cathedral on State Street in Chicago. Estrada will be buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
