Southern Illinois drops SIU-Edwardsville 74-57

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Jalen Pendleton scored 20 points to lead Southern Illinois to a 74-57 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Monday.

The Salukis (4-8) shot a remarkable 60 percent from the floor. Desmar Jackson added 13 points and 8 rebounds.

SIU-Edwardsville did not have a scorer in double figures. The Cougars were led by Tim Johnson’s nine points and shot 6 of 19 (32 percent) from beyond the arc.

Southern Illinois made a 15-0 run early in the first half — all on points in the paint — but Edwardsville got a couple of 3s, by Christian Salecich and Cameron Craig, to cut the lead to 25-15 with 6:03 left in the half. The Salukis recovered for a 14-5 run to end the frame leading 39-20 at intermission.

Southern Illinois stretched the lead to 28 with 8:21 left, and though Edwardsville got it to nine with 1:13 remaining, the comeback ran out of time.
