A 31-year-old Elgin man was critically injured Friday night in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 20 near the Route 59 overpass in Bartlett, police said Monday.

According to police, the man was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry westbound on Route 20 about 10:15 p.m. when the vehicle struck the curb and left the roadway. The car then struck a utility pole and came to rest on the embankment.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by the Bartlett Fire Protection District to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
