University of Wisconsin president panel to hand over recommendations

MADISON, Wis. — A committee screening University of Wisconsin System president hopefuls is set to hand over finalists’ names to a selection committee this week.

The search-and-screen committee is expected to hand over the names to the selection group in a closed meeting Friday on the UW-Madison campus. System officials expect to release the finalists’ names on Jan. 2.

The selection committee will winnow the field down to one person and forward that name to the Board of Regents, which is expected to make a hiring decision sometime next month.

Current UW System President Kevin Reilly announced in July he plans to resign at the end of the year after coming under intense criticism from Republican legislators for allowing system campuses to build massive reserves while raising tuition year after year.
