Fire damages house under construction in Wheaton

Investigators are trying to determine what caused an overnight fire that damaged a house under construction in Wheaton.

Fire officials said crews were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. Thursday to the structure on the 1300 block of South Aurora Way.

When firefighters arrived, they found a small fire on the first floor of the house, which is under construction. The fire was brought under control within minutes.

The building wasn't occupied, and there were no injuries, officials said.

Officials say the cause of the fire hasn't been determined, but doesn't appear to be suspicious.

A damage estimate isn't yet unavailable.

The Wheaton Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Wheaton police and several fire departments from neighboring communities.

Authorities said the house was turned back over to the general contractor and owner's representative for the project.
