Probation for Palatine granddaughter who stole from grandmother

A 44-year-old Palatine woman pleaded guilty in Bridgeview to stealing from her 98-year-old grandmother, court records show.

Jennifer Curtis was sentenced to 30 months probation and ordered to pay $617 in fines in exchange for her guilty plea Tuesday to financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police said Curtis had her grandmother’s power of attorney between October 2005 to July 2011. During that time, authorities say Curtis wrote checks, made electronic payments and forged electronic wire transfers from her grandmother’s financial accounts to pay for trips, apparel, restaurants, food, gas and car payments.

Sheriff’s police indicated last year that Curtis stole more than $200,000 from the victim.
