Cardinal George marks 50th year in priesthood

Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant at a Mass Wednesday, Dec. 18 celebrating his Golden Jubilee, the 50th anniversary of his ordination as a priest, church officials said Monday. The Mass will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior streets in Chicago. Joining the cardinal for this milestone celebration will be representatives from dioceses and archdioceses around the country, ecumenical and interreligious leaders, bishops and priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Archdiocesan leadership and the faithful. George, who was made archbishop of Chicago in 1997, was ordained Dec. 21, 1963 at his home parish of St. Pascal Church on Chicago’s Northwest side.
