Wheaton man accused of hitting, killing pedestrian

A delivery driver from Wheaton is accused of a felony charge alleging that he was driving impaired when he hit and killed an 82-year-old woman while she was crossing a Chicago street.

The Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/1dDd7MO) reports that Cook County prosecutors charged 61-year-old James Rudzinski on Saturday with aggravated driving under the influence of marijuana. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs and for disregarding a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Authorities say Rudzinski, of Wheaton, hit Bronislawa Zajac while the victim Thursday was crossing the street. Zajak later died at a hospital.

Rudzinski’s bond was set at $150,000.

When reached Sunday by The Associated Press at his home, Rudzinski declined to comment because his case still is pending.
