Dundee-Crown’s Marshall marshalls another pair of pins
Jeremy Marshall wants to spend as little time on the wrestling mat as possible.
So, Marshall’s plan is to pin his opponent as quickly as possible.
The Dundee-Crown senior 285-pounder accomplished his goals at Saturday’s D-C Triangular in Carpentersville.
Marshall pinned Larkin’s Jerry Hernandez in 1:58 and took down Hersey’s Tyler Cooke in 2:26 to improve his season-record to 17-3.
Marshall’s impressive performance helped D-C to a 50-22 win over Larkin and a 46-18 victory over Hersey.
“My goal is to attack early, be aggressive and make my opponent wrestle my match,” said Marshall. “I want to come out with high intensity and get myself in position to get a quick pin. I am wrestling well, but I know I still have a lot of work to do.”
Winners of 20 of 28 matches, the Chargers got 2 wins each from Jarrod Raap (170, 182, 2 pins), Taborist Robinson (138, pin, decision), DaShun Lloyd (182, 170; decision, technical fall), Javon Mayfield (126, tech fall, decision), Armando Guiterrez (145, pin, decision), Diamond Flynn (106, pin, forfeit) and David Hamelberg (120, pin, forfeit).
“Jarrod and Jeremy were outstanding, but overall I thought we wrestled well,” said D-C coach Bob Skillman. “We are developing some depth and a much stronger lineup. We are wrestling better at the lower weights and getting better as a team all the time.”
Hersey, which defeated Larkin 39-30, got 2 pins each from Mitch MacTavish (113) and Dean Simmons (160). The Huskies also got 1 pin each from Jalen Shaw (138) and Jorge Montesinos (182).
“We have great kids who work hard and are always improving,” said Hersey coach Jim Wormsley, a 1987 graduate of Dundee-Crown. “It was nice to beat a good Larkin team, but Dundee-Crown was just too strong. They have a great team.”
Larkin, which lost 2 matches, got 2 wins each from Ramon Vargas (195, decision, pin), Dusan Bogicevic (132, tech fall, decision) and Alejandro Duran (152, 2 decisions), while Jacob Quintanilla (126) and Luis Guadarrama (113) each picked up 1 pin each.
“We should have beat Hersey,” said Larkin coach Steve Hoyt. “We had 5 matches we should have won and that really cost us. Dundee-Crown was a better team than us. They are very strong from top to bottom. They have a lot of experience and talent. They have 7 kids back who had 20 wins last year.”
