Streamwood driver killed when car strikes tree

A Streamwood man was killed early Thursday when his car hit a tree in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve near Elk Grove Village, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 3:24 a.m. on Higgins Road, just west of Arlington Heights Road, according to Acting Battalion Chief Todd Rishling of the Elk Grove Fire Department.

The victim was identified as Olmos Anduray, 30, of Streamwood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Rishling said the car left the westbound lanes of Higgins Road and struck a large tree located about 25 feet off the roadway.

“We were thinking he probably was on the shoulder and traveled on the shoulder 50 to 100 feet,” Rishling said.

The car was “mangled,” Rishling said, and emergency crews who responded worked to extricate the victim from the vehicle.

After 20 minutes, firefighters were able to get the man out of the car, then transported him to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital, Rishling said.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.
