Houston joins NWSL as 9th team

HOUSTON — The National Women’s Soccer League has announced the addition of its first expansion team — the Houston Dash.

The team will be owned and operated by the Houston Dynamo of MLS and will begin play in the 2014 season next spring.

The National Women’s Soccer League has eight other teams, including the Chicago Red Stars franchise, which plays its games at the Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle.

The NWSL is set to play a 24-game schedule in its second season starting in April.

The Dash will play at BBVA Compass Stadium, where the Houston Dynamo play their MLS games. The Dash will host 12 home games next season.
