• A Carpentersville woman told police someone used her debit card number to buy a $1,100 laptop online Wednesday, according to police reports. The woman told police she received an email from Best Buy thanking her for the purchase she says she never made. The woman later closed her account. No arrests have been made.
• Lavell Cochran, 24, of Oakcrest Drive in Carpentersville, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft Saturday after police said he stole $233 in merchandise from the Macy's inside Spring Hill Mall. He was released on his signature and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 2.
• Two holiday candle burners valued at $90 were stolen between 10 a.m. and noon Sunday from a home on the 12N800 block of Pollitt Drive near Elgin, according to a sheriff's report.
