McGlynn to direct his final concert at Schaumburg High School

The Schaumburg High School 2013 Holiday Choral Concert 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, in Weimer Auditorium will be Choir Director Tim McGlynn’s last after a dozen years in the position.

The program will feature the concert choir, chorus, choraliers and the Saxonettes a cappella group. Reserved seat tickets are $2 and are available at the door.

Musical selections will include “A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas” by Craig Courtney, “Banquet Fugue” by John Rutter, “Bellas Finals” from Pitch Perfect and “Universal Child” by Annie Lennox.

McGlynn will conduct and Bev Tipps will serve as accompanist. Choir intern Paige Brantley will conduct two selections.

McGlynn, a teacher for 33 years, plans to go on medical leave due to problems with vertigo and a lifelong medical condition, then enter retirement. He joined Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 at Palatine High School in 1994 after teaching at high schools in downstate Illinois and in Minnesota. He became choir director in 2001.

“It was my pleasure to work with all of the choral music students as well as the musical and variety show casts,” McGlynn said in an email. “Highlights for me include four choir trips to Cedar Point for the Music in the Parks Festival and one appearance at the Candlelight Processional Concert at Disney’s Epcot Center.”

He said he also especially enjoyed taking students to Chicago to see performances of several Broadway musicals. At SHS, musicals he directed include “Little Shop of Horrors,” “West Side Story” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”

Ann Espel, director of the Harper College Festival Chorus, will succeed him as choir director at the high school, he said.
