Palatine man gets prison for baseball bat beating

A 25-year-old Palatine man, who police say struck another man with a baseball bat during an argument, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery Tuesday.

In exchange for Albino Damian-Lopez’s guilty plea to the class three felony, Cook County Judge Ellen Mandletort sentenced him to three years in prison, with 122 days credit for the time he has spent in jail since his arrest.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded to reports of a fight in the 1500 block of Norway Lane in unincorporated Palatine Township at about midnight Aug. 10, authorities said. Once there, they encountered the 27-year-old victim suffered injuries to his eye and face. Investigators learned Damian-Lopez struck the victim with the bat and ran away.

He turned himself into sheriff’s police the following day.

Damian-Lopez must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
